What is White Noise?

White noise is a type of coloured noise which occurs when all frequencies on the audible scale are combined in equal measure- creating a steady, static like sound.

White noise also presents itself in everyday sounds like low vacuuming, fan sounds, steady running water or gentle shushing.

What is a White Noise Machine?

A white noise machine is a device that produces a consistent sound, often likened to the sound of rushing air or static. This sound is known as white noise and is used to mask other noises, creating a soothing environment for sleep, relaxation, and focus.

What can a White Noise Machine be used for?

White noise is great for sleep, as it covers up unwanted sounds like traffic and noisy neighbours, letting you doze off more peacefully. It also gives your mind something to focus on whilst you're trying to power down for the evening.

For babies, white noise is like a cozy reminder of the womb, helping them sleep more soundly and most importantly- stay asleep for longer!

White noise is also super helpful in helping you to stay focused. By smoothing out background noises, it helps you concentrate better, whether you're in the office or hitting the books.

Are White Noise Machine’s bad for you?

White noise is a completely safe and effective way to improve sleep. It's recommended to keep sound levels to that of a soft shower - around 65 dB if listening for a long period of time.

Are White Noise Machine’s safe for babies?

White noise is also completely safe for babies and actually acts as a cozy reminder of the womb. The Lullaby Trust safe sleep advice is clear, the safest cot is a clear cot, so please do not leave your LUMI inside the cot with your baby unsupervised. For this reason, all our portable machines feature a handy hook allows you to clip the machine onto cot rails or moses basket handles for safe use overnight without supervision. It's recommended to keep sound levels to that of a soft shower - around 65 dB.

I can’t switch my machine on.

Make sure you’ve fully charged your machine before using it. You’ll know if it is charging correctly if the power indicator light shows red. Once the red light goes off this means the machine is fully charged. To turn on the machine you must long-press the on button. If you still can’t switch it on please contact us directly.

What power adapter shall I use?

To connect the charging cable to mains power you must use no higher than a 5V/1A adapter. If you don’t already have one, you can find one in most electrical retailers.

Can I use the sounds without the lights?

Yes, the sounds and lights work independently. When you switch on the machine you can press one of the three sound buttons on the left. Sounds will come on, but no lights will be activated.

If the lights are already on you can hold down the light buttons and the lights will switch off.

Can I use the lights without the sounds?

Yes, the sounds and lights work independently. If you would like to use the lights without the sounds, switch on the machine and turn the volume down until you can’t hear the sounds. You can then choose your light settings.

How can I get the light to stay on one colour?

To turn on the coloured light press the 7 colour night light button, as you cycle through this you can activate the different colour options. If the colour is fading from light to dark, you can stop this by pressing the breathing light button.

Can I turn off the button lights?

When the device is on standby and you press any button the button lights will come on for 30 seconds, after this they will automatically switch off. There is no option to disable this.

When I use the timer, can I set the lights to stay on?

When you use the 30/60/90 minute timer option, the machine will turn off entirely after the specified time, both lights and sounds, therefore the lights will not stay on.

Can I tell when my machine is about to run out of charge?

There is currently no way to check when the machine will run out of charge, however as a rule of thumb you will get around 20 hours of usage from one single charge.

How will I know when my machine is fully charged?

When you charge your machine the power indicator light will show as red, once the machine is fully charged the light will not show anymore.

Can I use the machine whilst it’s charging?

Yes you can.

My machine has randomly switched off.

If your machine switched off without you turning it off it may be that you had a timer setting activated. It may also be the case your machine has run out of charge. Try charging the machine and switching it back on.

None of the buttons are responding.

If your machine is on but the buttons aren’t responding, check you don’t have the child lock accidentally activated. You can check this by turning your machine around and flicking the switch to the open padlock symbol.
